New Spider-Man : Andrew Garfield

There's a new Spider-Man in town.

Andrew Garfield, whose credits include last year's Heath Ledger film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, has been cast as Peter Parker, the average youth who transforms into a superhero, in the next Spider-Man movie, distributor Sony Pictures announced on Thursday.

The as-yet-untitled Spider-Man film begins shooting in December and is due in theaters July 3, 2012. Marc Webb, who made the romance (500) Days of Summer is directing.

Garfield and Webb got the jobs after star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi, who made three blockbuster Spider-Man films together, departed amid story and scheduling issues over a fourth movie.

"Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents," Webb said. "He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker."

Among Garfield's other credits are director David Fincher's upcoming The Social Network, about the founders of Facebook, and Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan's upcoming drama, Never Let Me Go. Garfield also starred in the acclaimed British drama Boy A.

Garfield was born in the United States, but was raised in England.

"In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and a cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer," said Avi Arad, one of the producers on the Spider-Man franchise. "We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future."

The new film, which will be shot in 3-D, focuses on a younger Peter Parker, the Marvel Comics hero who gains superpowers after he's bitten by a radioactive spider.

Biggest Celebrity Divorce Payout Ever : Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren

The divorce between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren is finally happening!

After months of speculation, sources say both parties have finally come to an agreement. According to The Sun, Tiger has agreed to pay Elin $750 million in a settlement. She also gets full custody of the couples two children, 3-year old Sam and 1-year-old Charlie.

"Everything's signed,” said an insider. “Elin is ready to file for divorce at Orlando County Court. She expects to in the next seven days."

But of course there’s a catch. As part of the agreement, Nordegren can never speak publicly about Tiger's extramarital affairs. But with that kind of money, we wouldn’t feel the need to speak anyway!

"Tiger's main fear is her telling her story after he's rebuilt his reputation, sending him back to the gutter,” said one source.

Sources say Elin ended up with double the sum she originally sought, after her lawyers proved Woods was worth much more than the $1 billion she thought.

Her friend explained: "Elin's legal team have done a great job digging up all sorts of assets.

"The price of the huge sum is her silence: no interviews, tell-all books, or TV appearances about this for the rest of her life -- even if Tiger dies first -- or she'll lose the lot."

As for Woods, he has agreed to keep any single women away from the kids, and only married women not romantically involved with Tiger will be allowed around them.

A pal said: "Elin is desperate to protect the children from the womanizing side of their father.

She gets sole physical custody, but under the agreement, Tiger will split legal custody, which prevents Nordegren from relocating with the kids to her native Sweden. The custody part of the agreement can also be renegotiated in five years.

The pal said: "Elin admits that despite everything, Tiger loves his kids and has been a decent dad. She is confident he will not pursue seeing the children that much, due to his work and lifestyle."

Sounds like Elin is making out pretty well here. She’s getting the biggest payout in the history of celebrity divorces! But reading a tell-all book written by her would have been pretty juicy!

Eclipse's early release sets sales record

It may not eclipse the opening-weekend performance of franchise predecessors, but Summit Entertainment's vampire-romance threequel "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is off to a bloody good -- and record -- start.

"Eclipse" fetched more than $30 million in estimated boxoffice from more than 4,000 domestic theaters programming midnight Tuesday performances, an unprecedented tally. The witching-hour coin will be lumped in with Wednesday grosses.

A first sequel -- "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" -- opened with $142.8 million in November, en route to registering $296.6 million in total U.S. and Canadian coin. Opening with midnight Thursday performances, "New Moon" rose to a then-record $26.3 million in witching-hour loot and a record $72.7 million in first-day Friday boxoffice.

The original "Twilight" unspooled in November 2008 with a first-weekend haul of $69.6 million and a total domestic cume of $192.8 million.

Prior to "New Moon," the record for midnight boxoffice was held by Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which rung up $22.2 million from its earliest performances.

Special exhibitor Imax, which is showing "Eclipse" in 192 domestic locations, said the threequel sunk its teeth into a record $1 million-plus from Imax venues offering midnight performances. The tally eclipsed a then-record Imax midnight haul of $959,000 by Paramount's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" from June 2009.

"Eclipse" is expected to ring up more than $150 million through Monday, playing in a record 4,410 total locations. The coming weekend is considered a four-day theatrical frame, with Independence Day falling on Sunday and most U.S. workers marking a holiday on Monday.

In comparing the "Eclipse" debut with its franchise predecessors, industryites will be watching the threequel's Wednesday-through-Friday grosses. But domestic rankings for the Independence Day holiday weekend will be based on Friday-through-Monday boxoffice.

Many believe "Eclipse" will have scooped so much boxoffice cream off the top of its opening by Friday, that its first-weekend tally will fall well short of $100 million. That still would top weekend rankings, with Paramount's 3D family adventure "The Last Airbender" expected to open at No. 2 with about $50 million forecast in a Thursday-through-Monday debut.

Directed by David Slade ("30 Days of Night"), "Eclipse" features Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart reprising roles of vampire, werewolf and anguished love interest, respectively.

Manny Pacquiao beats Tom Cruise on Forbes celebrity 'power list'

MANILA, Philippines – Seven-division world champion and Sarangani Province Rep. Manny Pacquiao jumped two notches in the 2010 Forbes Celebrity 100, the ranking of the richest and most powerful celebrities and personalities in the world.

From No. 57 in 2009, Pacquiao improved to No. 55 in the annual list compiled by the US-based business magazine, Forbes Magazine.

He is ranked higher than Hollywood superstars Tom Cruise (No. 56), Adam Sandler (No. 57), George Clooney (No. 58), Leonardo DiCaprio (No. 71), Robert Downey, Jr. (No. 73) and Julia Roberts (No. 77).

The annual survey ranks the celebrities according to their estimated earnings between June 2009 and June 2010, and adds a fame component made up of press mentions, Internet presence and magazine cover stories.

According to Forbes.com, the Filipino boxing icon earned the No. 55 ranking after earning $42 million in the past year. He ranked 47th in the list according to pay rank; 52nd in TV, radio and press mentions; and 60th in social media mentions.

He earned $35 million for his 2 fights against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto and Ghanaian Joshua Clottey.

“While still regarded by many as the best boxer in the sport right now, Pac-Man is also busy outside the ring,” Pacquiao’s entry in the list read.

The magazine said Pacquiao spent an estimated $7 million on his successful campaign to represent Sarangani province in Congress.

Arnold Schwarzenegger puts California arts license plates

Arnold Schwarzenegger was making the rounds at the 20th Century Fox Studios on Monday morning, but his official purpose wasn't to pitch a movie project or to hobnob with studio executives.

The governor and first lady Maria Shriver were on hand to launch the Million Plates Campaign, an effort by the California Arts Council to raise at least $40 million for arts funding through the sale of specialized arts license plates. Organizers hope to meet their goal of selling 1 million plates by January.

The California Arts Council administers arts grants throughout the state and promotes cultural awareness through schools and other programs. For the 2009 fiscal year, it had a total budget of approximately $5.4 million. The council relies on revenue from the plates to cover more than 60% of its budget.

Other entertainment-industry notables in attendance Monday were Quincy Jones, T-Bone Burnett, Valerie Harper and Wilmer Valderamma, formerly of the TV series "That 70's Show."

The event took place in a picturesque courtyard at Fox, the studio where Schwarzenegger made blockbuster movies including "Commando," "Predator" and "True Lies." Speaking to the audience, the governor recalled his own school days and the importance that arts education played.

"Where I grew up in Austria, we had twice-a-week art classes ... and once a month, we had an opera singer or other performer visit us," said Schwarzenegger. He emphasized that the state faces a $20-billion budget deficit and that education and other programs continue to face cuts.

To reach its 1-million-plate goal by January, campaign organizers are going to have to work extra hard. The California Department of Motor Vehicles said that there are a little more than 73,000 arts plates registered. [Updated: The figure represents the latest statistics provided by the DMV.] Since the plates began in 1994, they have brought in total revenue of about $45.3 million, or about $4 million per year.

According to the DMV, the plates earned about $4.5 million in 2008, while in 2009 they brought in $4.3 million.

The California Arts Council receives a fraction of the money raised from the arts plates. A standard arts plate costs $50 while a personalized one costs $98. For each plate sold, the council receives about $34.63 to place in the Arts License Plate Fund.

Arnold2 In an interview after the ceremony, Shriver emphasized the importance of the campaign as a grass-roots effort. "Governments are maxed out now," she said. "This campaign doesn't involve government, and it's a way to say that you did something to help."

Burnett said separately that he attended public schools in Texas and that "there was a lot of art in the schools and it was important." He said that a lack of arts education would lead the country in the direction of "Idiocracy," the 2006 comedy about the dumbing-down of America.

California ranks last in the nation in terms of state arts spending per capita. According to data from the California Arts Council, the state spent just $0.12 per person on the arts in 2009, compared to $2.58 spent by New York.

The campaign has enlisted the help of prominent entertainment personalities and artists to help promote the plates. The "arts ambassadors" include Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Robert Redford, Frank Gehry, John Baldessari, Anjelica Huston, Billy Al Bengston and Jennifer Aniston.

Among the partners working with the California Arts Council on the campaign are the Creative Coalition, the nonprofit organization that helps raise money in the entertainment community for various causes; the Screen Actors Guild; and Avon Studio Rentals, which supplies vehicles for the entertainment industry.

The chair of the council is Malissa Feruzzi Shriver, Maria Shriver's sister-in-law.

At the end of Monday's ceremony, the governor and first lady received thank-you presents in the form of matching "Arnold" and "Maria" arts license plates.

Michael Jackson's Las Vegas Rental Home Vandalized

TMZ has learned cops have just responded to the Las Vegas home Michael Jackson rented from 2007 -2009 after someone called in claiming the place had been vandalized.

Law enforcement sources tell us when cops arrived to the home, they found several walls inside the home had been spray painted with "illegible" graffiti.

We're told no one has lived in the home for more than a year -- and cops have no idea when the vandals may have struck.

In a related note -- we're told several people visited the home recently to commemorate the one-year anniversary of MJ's death ... and it's likely one of the fans may have noticed the graffiti.

So far, cops have no suspects -- and no arrests have been made.

Larry King to end US TV chat show

Veteran broadcaster Larry King has announced that he will be ending his nightly show on CNN in the autumn.

Over 25 years of the show, King, famous for wearing braces, has conducted more than 40,000 interviews.

Larry King Live recently made it into in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running show with the same host in the same time slot.

The news comes at a time of falling ratings for the show. King, 76, said he would spend more time with his family.

His marriage to seventh wife Shawn Southwick had appeared to be on the point of breaking up earlier this year when King filed for divorce.

The couple have since reconciled their differences.

On his blog, King wrote that CNN had agreed to his request to wrap up the show in the autumn "giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids' little league games".

He said he would "still be a part of the CNN family" and planned to host special programmes on major national and international events.

"With this chapter closing I'm looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it's time to hang up my nightly suspenders (braces)," he concluded.

Over the course of his career, King has interviewed every US president since Gerald Ford. His most recent interviewees include Bill Gates and singer Lady Gaga.

However, his show has slipped behind those of rivals such as MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and Fox News's Sean Hannity in the ratings battle.

The news of King's decision to end his show comes only a week after New York Times media critic David Carr suggested CNN needed to find a worthy successor for him soon.

"As it is, Mr King has been left to dangle, battered by tabloid reports, sliding ratings and his own daily battle to anchor the show five days a week," he wrote.

"The more legendary the talent, the more delicate the endgame."

However, Imran doesn’t rule out the fact that the two are really close to each other. “We don`t discuss scripts but we are very upfront about (each other`s) films. He called me after watching ‘Luck’ and said that it was damn bad,” revealed Imran.

Though Deepika and Ranbir called off their relationship, cat-fights between the two beauties still prevail.

Aishwarya Rai refuses to kiss Brad Pitt

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the most desirable Bollywood actress in Hollywood. Lots of promising Hollywood offer comes her way but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan prefers to give them a miss following tight schedule. She has so many to do in Bollywood that she won’t be able to do justice to overseas projects. One interesting project that came to her doorstep was ‘Troy’ but Ash rejected the offer as the film includes some intimate scenes with Hollywood star Brad Pitt.

Regarding the offer, the 36 yr old actress said, "One of the reasons I declined ‘Troy’ was that there were some very explicit lovemaking scenes in the script, and a lot of kisses. I was like, `Oh my God! I`m not sure`. I couldn`t imagine being comfortable with it".

Ash was also the top choice for ‘Hancock’ and ‘Seven Pounds’ in the past but she chose to say no. Confirming the news, Aishwarya said, "It wasn`t about an attitude I had, or any inverted ideas about working overseas, it was simply about scheduling. I just didn`t have the time".

Hollywood directors like Brett Ratner wanted her for ‘Rush Hour’ and Wolfgang Petersen persuaded her for ‘Troy. Speaking about her international projects, she quips, "Michael Douglas came to India and did a press conference where he confessed that he had brought a script my way. And Will Smith was generous enough to be persistent twice over, for ‘Hancock’ and ‘Seven Pounds’.”

However, Ash is not interested to go westward.

Michael Jackson glove sells for $160,000

When Michael Jackson’s denim jacket from his Jackson 5 days sold for $26,000 — more than five times its estimated sale price — it was the first indication that the late pop star’s belongings were going to sell for more money than anyone may have anticipated.

Even his brothers’ and sisters’ items were selling for thousands at Julien’s Auctions summer sale on Friday at Planet Hollywood. On the one-year anniversary of Jackson’s death, everything was a hot commodity.

Fans, bidders and curious passersby filled the auction area at Planet Hollywood for the nearly six hours of bidding on 251 lots of Jackson memorabilia.

But there was one item that everyone really came to see — one of Jackson’s signature Swarovski crystal-studded gloves.

After nearly 150 lots and much anticipation, the glove finally made its appearance.

At an auction in November in New York, a glove Jackson wore when performing his signature moonwalk for the first time at the “Motown 25” concert in 1983 sold for $420,000.

“I’ll start the bidding at $1 just so you all can say that you bid on Michael Jackson’s glove,” auctioneer Kathleen Guzman said as bidders raised their paddles in a frenzy.

Then the real bidding began. It started at $31,000 and rose to more than $100,000 within seconds.

Julien’s Auctions employees raised their own studded-gloved hands furiously as competing bids came in from anonymous bidders over the phone and online.

In the end, a $160,000 bid from Wanda Kelley of Los Angeles won out. The glove was expected to see for between $20,000 and $30,000.

Kelley said she was prepared to go higher than her $160,000 winning bid, but she was reluctant to say how much higher.

“Let’s just say I wasn’t walking out of here without that glove,” Kelley said coyly shortly after claiming her prize.

Aside from the glove, Kelley scooped up most of the gold records in the Jackson collection. She said she’s been a fan all her life but wasn’t aware that today marked the anniversary of his death.

“I’ve just been so busy. I was up in my hotel room watching CNN and it was a surprise to me to hear it was the anniversary,” Kelley said.

Julien’s Auctions owner Darren Julien said the price of Jackson memorabilia has skyrocketed since his death last June. That was more than obvious during Friday’s sale. Julien said Jackson's 251 lots sold for $1.98 million, nearly double what the auction house originally expected.

His MTV music video award, priced between $6,000 and $8,000 in the Julien’s catalog, sold for $37,500. Handwritten lyrics to “Bad” went for $8,000, 10 times its estimated sale price. A signed fedora went for $45,000 and a corduroy shirt for $23,000.

The jacket Jackson wore during his 1996 wedding to Debbie Rowe sold for $60,000 to a woman sitting with Anna Nicole Smith’s former boyfriend and the father of Smith’s daughter, Larry Birkhead. The T-shirt Jackson wore in his “Beat It” video sold for $36,000, and an autographed replica of the jacket he wore in the video went for $110,000.

Susie Lopez of California paid $24,000 for a caricature drawn and signed by Jackson. Lopez traveled to Las Vegas with the goal of picking up one his drawings after losing a bidding war at a New York auction in November.

“The drawings are just so personal, not like some of the other items up for bid. I don’t think people realize what a great artist he was,” Lopez said as she held her catalog marked with other items she was interested in. “I got what I came for.”

Noboru Ochiai scooped up one of the priciest items of the afternoon, a custom jacket for $100,000, along with a fedora for $37,500. Both were worn by Jackson during a 1997 interview with Barbara Walters.

Ochiai was bidding for Japanese pop star and magician Princess Tenko.

He was hoping to pick up a pair of Jackson’s autographed black loafers for Princess Tenko, but he lost to an anonymous bidder on the phone who purchased the pair for $75,000.

As for the glove, Ochiai wasn’t even considering bidding. “Too expensive,” he said.

Donning their Jackson T-shirts and “I love MJ” bracelets, Kandice Jones of Las Vegas and her daughter Deanna didn’t come to bid but to remember Jackson and compare prices with their own memorabilia.

Kandice Jones said she’s been collecting Jackson memorabilia since 1979 and has lost count of how many pieces she owns today. Perfume bottles once owned by Jackson, an autographed copy of his “Thriller” album and a signed Jackson doll are among her most prized possessions.

Her love of Jackson has become a family affair passed on to her children.

“I really didn’t realize how passionate I was about him until he died,” Deanna Jones said. “I was crying for days.”

The Jones family was devoting the day to celebrating and remembering Jackson, beginning with a memorial service Friday morning and the auction in the afternoon.

Later tonight, they’ll be watching their VCR tape copy of his memorial service from last year and making one of Jackson’s favorite dishes — cheese enchiladas.

world's top earning Dead Celebrity : Michael Jackson

With total earnings of nore than $1bn, Jackson has overtaken art designer Yves Saint Laurent

Each year, Forbes - trusted experts on all things wealth related - publishes its annual Dead Celebrities list, a definitive chart of the deceased icons who are earning the most from beyond the grave.

In its 2009 chart, fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent was the list's highest earner with total earnings of $350m.

This placed him ahead of John Lennon, Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schultz, Elvis Presley and, in third place, the late King of Pop Michael Jackson (who back then had earnings of $90m).

Now, a year after his death, this figure has boomed to more than $1bn - officially making him the world's top earning dead celebrity.

According to reports, Jackson's earnings have been boosted by CD sales - record label Sony has sold more than 31 million albums since his death - and the documentary, This Is It.

The film, showing rehearsals for the singer's planned final London gigs, is now the most successful concert film of all time. It grossed $103m in cinemas, with a further $42m made through the sales of DVD and Blu-Ray.

What's more, Jackson's loyal fans still treat their tickets from the cancelled gigs as collectibles, rather than cashing-in on them.

Shortly before his death, Jackson signed a deal with Sony for £168m to release album reissues and never-before-heard tracks from his back catalogue.

It is now estimated that Jackson's estate is worth more than $994m and is likely to become even bigger than Elvis Presley's.

This perhaps isn't suprising considering that Elvis actually sold more records in the year after his death than he did during the whole of his lifetime.

Jackson was calculated to have been nearly $494m in debt when he died in June of last year.

Mariah Carey is a deadbeat dog owner, sues for $30,000 : Cindy Bressler

Mariah Carey is being hounded by a veterinarian to the stars who says the singer is a doggone deadbeat.

Dr. Cindy Bressler, whose Web site boasts of her celebrity clients in Manhattan and the Hamptons, has a bone to pick with Carey for stiffing her on nearly $30,000 in "extraordinary services" performed on Cha-Cha, Dolomite and JJ, the suit says.

Carey is accused of paying only $8,231.50 to Bressler for services performed between last Oct. 31 and Dec. 2.

The "Hero" star still owes $29,559, according to court papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, for a nearly month-long stay in California to help with the birth of a puppy, Dolomite.

"Just pay the woman already," said Michael Posner, the doggie-doc's lawyer. "This has been going on six months."

A spokeswoman for Carey did not return calls yesterday.

Carey frequently posts pictures online of the Jack Russell terriers and tweets about their wacky antics, such as the time Dolomite swiped her panties from a suitcase. Just last week, she proudly announced the birth of Cha-Cha and JJ's newest puppy.

"Jackie Lambchops [said like Tony Soprano]," she wrote.

JJ once starred in a series of online comedy sketches with Carey, with rapper Snoop Dogg providing a voice for the tiny white pooch.
