Her daughter is one of the most photographed people, let alone children, on the planet.

So on occasion, it is inevitable that the cameras are going to witness Suri Cruise doing, or wearing, something that causes other parents to raise an eyebrow - from the now-infamous 'penis' sweets the five-year-old unknowingly selected in a store, to her penchant for heels.

And now Katie Holmes has explained the story behind the much-criticised pictures of Suri out in New York in freezing winter temperatures without a coat.

Speaking to InStyle US magazine, the 32-year-old admits to being embarrassed about the pictures.

She tells the magazine: 'Recently, Suri and I were taking a walk and a fight got started because it was cold outside and she didn't want to wear her coat.

'My philosophy is, well, fine, because after a block of walking you're going to ask me for your coat.

'So the pictures of her [without a coat in cold weather] are sort of embarrassing, but I said, "Suri, I'll take the hit. Just put it on when you get cold".'

Katie insists she doesn't feel pressure to give Suri a little brother or sister. 'We already have a very big family; a full household with cousins who are over a lot,' she says. 'My biggest thing is making sure she's fully taken care of and doing well.'

The Mad Money star reveals how the family unit deals with their hectic schedules: 'We Skype, and we try not to go for a week without seeing each other,' Katie tells the magazine.

'We're also very good at setting up camp wherever we go.'

And Katie and Tom also find time for romance, though the actress says it's of a 'manly' style.

'Two years ago he took me up on his P-51 Mustang, a fighter plane from World War II. He painted the words, "Kiss Me, Kate" on the side,' she recalls.

'It feels like you're on a bike in the sky. I thought, I'm either going to spend this whole flight totally freaked out or realise this is pretty thrilling.'

Katie has been in Cancun, Mexico, this week promoting her upcoming Adam Sandler comedy Jack and Jill.

She has revealed a lengthy list of other actresses she looks up to. 'I love Renée (Zellweger), she can do no wrong in my eyes,' she says.

'I relate to every character she embodies, because she has no pretence.

'I also love Amy Adams. She's so kind and talented, and whenever I watch her I think, "I want to be her friend" - I've seen Enchanted many times with my daughter.

'Meryl Streep, of course. And I love what Cate Blanchett brings to every movie she does.'

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes go on a Father's Day Cruise in hideous outfits

Most dads will be opening up gifts this Father's Day filled with unflattering
shirts, socks and and odd smelling after shave.

And it seems like Tom Cruise has already opened up bundle of terrible presents this year and decided to put them all on at once.

The 48-year-old actor and his wife Katie Holmes both looked like they pulled on the nearest thing to them without considering how they looked.

Tom looked like the father who tries way too hard to be cool and fails miserably.

The family celebrated Father's Day in Miami, Florida where Tom is filming the Eighties theme musical Rock of Ages.

He paired a white shirt with a red and blue trim with khaki shorts. The Top Gun star then put on bright white sneakers with white socks and paired the whole ensemble with a fedora hat.

Katie did not fair much better and despite the scorching Florida heat decided to wear a long sleeved striped sweater dress and sandals - obviously getting her seasons mixed up.

She carried Suri in her arms, as always, to the luxury yacht which they hopped on for their afternoon cruise.

After they boarded the yacht named Marquis, Katie and Suri sat on the deck while Tom kept cool inside as they sailed out to sea.

The couple have been the butt of break-up rumours pretty much from as soon as they got together six years ago.

But the loved up twosome showed that their relationship is stronger than ever and were very touchy feely at an event in Miami Beach last night.

Katie, 32, lovingly grabbed on to her husband of nearly five years from behind and Tom reciprocated and rested his hand over hers in a sweet gesture.

The couple turned up the Miami heat during a night out with the cast members from Rock of Ages including Julianne Hough and Malin Akerman.

They cosied up at Larios Cuban style bongo club and seemed to enjoy their date night in the Sunshine State.

She wore a black floral print halter dress which was cinched at the waist with a brown belt.

Tom looked like a cool dude in a black and white striped shirt and a white fedora hat with a black trim.

He had a big smile on his face with his lady love cuddled up near to him.

Obviously not fairing too badly from the night out, Katie was up bright and early this morning to see in Father's Day with Tom and their five-year-old daughter Suri.

She then ventured out for her usual ritual of getting her caffeine fix and did
not let the humid weather get in the way of her coffee run.

Having seemingly come from working out, Katie was dressed in blue leggings, a white top and had a large multi-coloured scarf thrown around her neck.

She chatted animatedly on her cell phone as she walked back to home where the family are staying while Tom continues to film his Stacee Jaxx role for Rock of Ages.

Yesterday Katie had a fun-filled day with Katie as they frolicked like any other mother and daughter at the beach.

Suri was fully clothed in a multi-coloured dress while donned a red bikini and pink denim shorts.

Cruise is undergoing an amazing transformation to play long-haired, tattooed rocker Stacee Jaxx in the film, which is due for release next year.

It tells the story of a girl who arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980s
rock scene and also stars Russell Brand.

It's a very different role for Tom, and Katie has given her backing to the career departure for her husband by revealing that he likes to perform at their home.

'Tom is such an amazing performer. Yes, we have music in our house and it’s amazing,' she told Access Hollywood.
