Brittany Murphy's widower is suing Warner Brothers over her heartbreaking death

Brittany Murphy's widower is suing Warner Brothers over her heartbreaking death.

Simon Monjack alleges the studio is to blame for Brittany dying last month from a cardiac arrest since just two weeks before her passing they fired her from the sequel to hit cartoon film Happy Feet.

He said: "They killed her. She was shocked ... You're throwaway as an actress or actor.

"I am tough. I litigate when somebody does somewhat wrong to me. That's one of the reasons I make enemies."

Simon also claims his late wife - who was just 32 when she died on December 20 at her Los Angeles home - lost out on many roles because of rumours she was a drug user, even though she never touched illegal substances.

The author - who married Brittany in May 2007 - said in an discussion with website The Daily Beast: "In all the time I've known her, she has never, and I repeat never, done drugs. Not a line of cocaine, not a hit from a joint, nothing. She was anti-drugs. There are no drugs involved.

"The drug rumours made her lose roles, I'm sure. All she wanted to do was to make movies. She was waiting for the role that would revive her career, waiting for the call from Penny Marshall or Guy Fleder, people she had worked with before, that they might remember how talented an actress she was.

"There's always some new girl getting off a bus. In Hollywood, girls like Brittany are disposable."

The writer also denied claims he ruined her career, saying her Hollywood star was dimming before he met her.

Simon believes the film industry is full of people who use young actresses and actors.

He said: "Brittany's films had grossed $100 million before she met me. But her career had ended before then. She had gone through four or five agents by the time we met, and she had made a lot of indies that went straight to video.

"She hadn't earned millions in years, and when we met she was struggling financially, from a series of bad investments. She trusted some people who she shouldn't have. There are people in Hollywood living off of young successful boys and girls and getting them to invest in things they shouldn't."

Sania Mirza breaks her engagement with Sohrab

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has ended her engagement to a childhood friend, citing incompatibility.

"We were friends for five years but found ourselves incompatible during our engagement period," the 23-year-old said in a announcement Thursday.

She had become engaged to Sohrab Mirza last July and earlier this month had said she would consider retiring from the game after she got married.

"I wish Sohrab the best in life," she said Thursday.

Sania's father Imran Mirza said that the end of the engagement would not impact the long friendship both families had shared.

Mirza became the first Indian woman to crack the top 40 in the rankings a few years ago and is now at No. 57. At one time, the Muslim player was assailed by traditional elements of the Indian community for competing in short skirts and sleeveless shirts.

Unexpected National Award Winner Priyanka Chopra for Fashion

At 4 a.m. in New York Saturday, the last thing Priyanka Chopra was expecting to hear was that she had won her first National Film Award. She jumped out of bed in complete joy when she got the news.

"It feels so unbelievable! It's 5 in the morning here (New York) and my phone has been ringing non-stop since about an hour. I am so energized," Priyanka told us over the phone from New York, where she has been shooting for Siddharth Anand's "Anjaana Anjaani".

The 27-year-old has won her first ever National Film Award for her performance in Madhur Bhandarkar's "Fashion". She says she is glad that she agreed to do the film.

"When Madhur approached me for this film, I was horrified about how complex the character was. But I am glad that I did it," she said.

However Priyanka has already won several awards as well as a Filmfare best actress award for her depiction of a struggling model in the film, she says the National Award is most special.

"This is a National Award! I was just not expecting this and especially because there are several regional films and actors competing for it. One can't keep track of the nominations at all. But this feels just great. After having won 15 awards for 'Fashion' so far, I feel I have come full circle with this one," she said.

Instead of celebrating her success, the actress says she was looking forward to the morning shoot scheduled for "Anjaana Anjaani", in which she is featuring opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

"I have a shoot tomorrow morning. So I just want to sleep right now so that I wake up fresh. I will be in a mood for celebration, but the shooting will absolutely happen. It is my bread and butter - and also what will hopefully - yes hopefully, fetch me my next National award," she joked.

Priyanka, who made her Bollywood debut in 2003, says she received the most special admiring call from her parents. Her father Ashok Chopra had shack tears after watching "Fashion" in 2008 because he was touched with his daughter's act, and he cried now again after hearing about her victory.
"My father called me up and said he is ecstatic and extremely proud of me. He had tears again. He is happy because I have achieved so much in such a short span of my career, and that makes him really proud," she added.
