Sofia Vergara basks in an 'amazing' time in her life

Sofia Vergara may not personally have an Emmy, but she's certainly got the perks that come with being nominated.

"For me, because of my boobs, it's really hard to find something (that fits)," says Vergara. "But this time, I had every dress possible sent to me."

Custom-fit designer dresses aside, Vergara is no newbie when it comes to showbiz. And she's ready to cash in on her Modern Family fame.

"I want to take advantage of my 15 minutes of fame," says Vergara. "I want to make a lot of money!"

"For me, it's amazing," says Vergara, 38, whose sexpot turn as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the Emmy-winning ABC sitcom (Season 2 premieres tonight, 9 ET/PT) garnered her a supporting-actress nomination — and a prime position to gather a new fan base.

"I think the moment that the show started airing, the recognition from everybody in the streets, young kids, teenagers," says the Colombian bombshell, who, pre-Modern Family, mainly worked as an actress for the Spanish-language cable network Univision.

"I've been in the entertainment industry for the last 20 years in the Latin market. Being able to be honored in an American sitcom ... It's the same thing, but on a bigger scale. Before I'd never gotten recognized by American people."

"Colombia is ecstatic. Everyone went crazy," says Vergara of her Emmy nod. "For us, it's not very often we get good press ... not being famous for something (other than) the cocaine. I never dreamed of this."

As Gloria, a smoking-hot mom married to Ed O'Neil's much older Jay Pritchett, she can relate — the part was, after all, written especially for Vergara.

"I like that she's Colombian!" enthuses Vergara. "I love it. It was so fantastic, so convenient for me. They could have made it a generic Latin woman. They didn't have to specify. But for me it's amazing because they can talk about the culture. I can show a little bit of my country to the States, to the world."

"It's very close to me, I'm a mother with a kid, I'm an immigrant in this country," says Vergara, who has a son, Manolo, who — wait for it — just turned 19. "He's in shock that I got nominated for an Emmy ... He says 'I think you're the only person who comes to this country and instead of improving the accent, it gets worse.' "

So yes, Vergara "rubbed it (that nomination) in his face."

And even though she didn't win (Glee's Jane Lynch nabbed the trophy), she's humbled just to be honored.

"So weird, because never in my life was that an option for me," says Vergara. "I don't even know what to say. It was never something I grew up thinking about. To me, it's like a gift."

With a red-hot career, a loving boyfriend (Nick Loeb, 35, whom Vergara nursed through a recovery following a car accident last month), and a grown-up son, Vergara is living the good life.

"Professionally, I've done it all," says Vergara when asked what dreams are left unfulfilled. "Personally, I've already raised my child. He's almost an adult."

So what's next? More kids? Marriage?

"I guess I just need to sit down and enjoy."

Sofia Vergara runs nude down Sunset Blvd after winning Emmys

Colombian actress Sofia Vergara has revealed that she has fulfilled her pledge to run nude in Hollywood  should sitcom ‘Modern Family’ win an Emmy. The team behind the hit ABC comedy had through an ad stated in July that Vergara, 38, would “run naked down Sunset Blvd.” if the show won the outstanding comedy award at the Emmys on August 29.

They also added in a disclaimer that the “cast member may change without notice”, but the actress says that she is not one to back down and has already done the run. “Listen, I’m not afraid of anything. I’m Colombian,” People magazine  quoted her as telling Access Hollywood. “Yes, I mean, I’m fast. I run fast. They zipped me and they sent me to do press,” she said.

Vergara’s co-star Julie Bowen has backed her story. “When we went back to the press room, she had made a left turn and we all made a right turn. So for about 20 minutes, she was missing,” she said. When she returned, Bowen asked her where she had been, and Vergara replied that she went to run nude down Sunset Boulevard. “No one was there. So I did it. It’s over … No one said I had to do it at a certain time,” Bowen said Vergara told her.
