Malin Akerman causes 'near inferno' in a red hot scarlet dress

She replaced Lindsay Lohan in the role of X-rated actress-turned-anti-porn activist Linda Lovelace in the upcoming movie, Inferno.

And it is plain to see why 32-year-old Malin Akerman got the job.

The Swedish-born actress looked scorching in a red-hot scarlet-hued dress as she left the E! Studios in Los Angeles today after a pre-taping an interview with Chelsea Handler for her show Chelsea Lately.

The one-shouldered frock showed off the former model's enviable long toned legs.

She paired the red-hot look with a pair of nude stilettos and a black designer bag, and wore her recently dyed darker locks in a natural style.

The gracious star carried her own belongings as she emerged from the studios and took time out to thank and hug studio staff.

Malin is set to play Linda Lovelace in the upcoming movie Inferno, a role that was originally meant for Lindsay Lohan.

Lohan was dropped from playing the porn star after she was deemed uninsurable, and director Matthew Wilder immediately chose Akerman to step in, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Akerman is best known for her roles in Couples Retreat with Vince Vaugh and  27 Dresses, where she played Katherine Heigl's sister.

Her latest movie, Wanderlust is currently in post production.

The upcoming comedy also stars Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd and is set to be released early October by Universal picutres.

She's also slated to appear in several other films including The Bang Bang Club with Taylor Kitsch and Ryan Philippe, Happythankyoumoreplease with Josh Radner, and The Numbers Station with Ethan Hawke.

Rumours had been swirling for some time over whether shooting on Inferno would be put on hold until Lohan completed her 2010 court ordered rehabilitation stint at the Betty Ford Centre or whether she would be dropped from the movie.

Lohan's camp then claimed that she wasn't fired, insisting she chose to pull out of the film of her own accord.

The film, which has taken some time to get off the ground, is yet to have a release date.

Today it was reported that the Lohan had also been dropped from a highly-anticipated new film about the late New York mafia boss, John Gotti.

She was poised to play his daughter Victoria in the upcoming project.

We are not talking any further about Lindsay playing Victoria,' Marc Fiore, producer of Gotti: Three Generations, said today.

'She is no longer being considered. The talks have stopped. We are going to meet with other people [for the role].'

'Her legal case has nothing to do with it. We just couldn't reach terms.'

But later the producer revealed that Lohan will instead take on the role of John Gotti Jr.'s daughter-in-law Kim,  a role once considered for reality star Kim Kardashian.
