But today Ashley Olsen was unrecognisable as she shared a cigarette with an unknown male companion at the Sant Ambroeus cafe in New York.
The make-up free mini mogul sported very tanned skin, and low and behold, a casual pair of jeans and simple pale pink shirt.
While Ashley had that familiar Olsen 'just rolled out of bed look', the 25-year-old could have easily passed as an American college student in the preppy attire.
Puffing away during her smoke break, Ashley seemed disinterested in the conversation she was having with her older companion.
The pair had just finished an early dinner at the popular cafe.
While the Olsen twins are rarely seen in tight or revealing clothing, they are known for preferring a more bohemian style off-duty, and quirky, fashion-forward outfits on the red carpet.
And Ashley choice of outfit today was a far cry from the twins taste in fashion that is lately becoming more and more bizarre with each passing day.
Last week Mary-Kate was pictured taking her dog for a walk in an Amish-inspired white shirt and navy blue circle skirt.
And last month, Ashley was seen near her New York home wearing what appeared to be a blue nightgown more suited to a grandmother paired with elasticised flat shoes.
But Ashley and Mary-Kate's own sartorial choices are not affecting the success of their fashion lines The Row and Elizabeth and James.
And the twins have now launched a new, members-only fashion site, StyleMint.com.
Mary-Kate told WWD of the site: ''With StyleMint.com, Ashley and I have created an online experience reflecting our love of style and allowing us to engage with our customers directly, which is an inspiring new way for us to think and create as designers.'
