Hema Malini, is all set to re-enter Rajya Sabha. In 2003, that is 8 years back, the then Prime Minister, Atal bihari Vajpayee, selected her to the Rajya Sabha. She got selected as a party member of Bharatiya Janta Party (B.J.P) in mar 3 polls, although there were many candidates competing for the seat. Even this time, Hema ji is selected for Rajya Sabha from B.J.P of Karnataka state. This has given birth to dispute, that despite a number of Kannadians contesting for the Rajya Sabha seats, why should a non-kannadian member represent Karnataka in the Upper House!
She filed paper on 21st january, which was the last date of submission. Her success is almost certain since BJP, the ruling party, has already got 107 members, only 103 votes required for victory. Reportedly, BJP’s Karnataka assemblage was overlooked in selecting Hema ji, to contest the RS bye poll. But, CM of Karnataka, B S Yeddyurappa, explained this situation by saying there was no conflict regarding Hema ji’s selection, the Party High Command decided on her candidature after consulting CM.
We wish her good luck, as Basanti ventures to become a Rajya Sabha member, amid all conflicts and confusion.
